Thor's Helmet
Thor's Helmet Nebula, officially known as NGC 2359, is an emission nebula in the constellation Canis Major. It's approximately 15,000 light-years from Earth and spans about 30 light-years across. The nebula's distinctive helmet shape is due to the central Wolf-Rayet star WR7, which emits a strong stellar wind that interacts with the surrounding molecular clouds, creating a bubble-like structure. This interaction results in the nebula's unique, filamentary appearance, reminiscent of Thor's helmet from Norse mythology. The nebula glows due to the ionization of gas by the central star's ultraviolet radiation.
