The Sun

The Sun is a G-type main-sequence star (G2V), often referred to as a yellow dwarf, at the center of our solar system. It's about 4.6 billion years old and contains 99.86% of the solar system's total mass. Its diameter is roughly 109 times that of Earth, and it emits light and heat through nuclear fusion, converting hydrogen into helium in its core. The Sun's surface temperature is approximately 9,932 degrees Fahrenheit (5,500 degrees Celsius), while its core reaches about 27 million degrees Fahrenheit (15 million degrees Celsius). It influences life on Earth through light, heat, and the creation of weather patterns, and it's critical for photosynthesis. The Sun has an 11-year solar cycle where its magnetic field activity fluctuates, leading to phenomena like sunspots and solar flares.
