The Rosette Nebula
The Rosette Nebula, cataloged as NGC 2237, is a large, circular emission nebula in the constellation Monoceros. It's renowned for its rose-like shape, which spans about 130 light-years across. The nebula is illuminated by a cluster of hot, young stars at its center, known as NGC 2244, whose ultraviolet radiation excites the surrounding hydrogen gas to emit a vibrant red glow. This nebula is a stellar nursery where new stars are forming, making it a fascinating object for both professional and amateur astronomers.
